Have you ever considered exploring Whitby in North Yorkshire by bike? Aside from amazing attractions, vibrant shopping and an array of exciting events going on year round, it also boasts some of the most scenic cycling routes in North Yorkshire. If you are thinking of including Whitby as part of a cycling holiday or indeed just want to get back in the saddle for a few hours during your stay keep reading.

WHITBY TOURING LOOP
Distance: 11.4 miles – Time needed: 1 hr 15 mins approx.
Start and finish at Cinder Track Terminus, Whitby.
You’ll travel 24% on cycle track and 75% on road, and this route is a lovely intro to riding in the North Moors National Park. Look out for the Larpool Viaduct or Esk Valley Viaduct. This gentle route is made for a quiet morning or afternoon cycle.
SCARBOROUGH TO WHITBY
Distance: 21.7 miles – Time needed: 1 hr 50 mins approx.
Start at Scarborough, Safe Ways Park and finish at Whitby Abbey.
Taking in some beautiful scenery along the way, the route is pretty much traffic free apart from a handful of junctions in in Scalby, Ravenscar, Robin Hood’s Bay and Whitby. From Whitby you can continue to Redcar if you wish.
SANDSEND BEACH & CAFES LOOP FROM RUSWARP
Distance: 11 miles – Time needed: 1 hr 10 mins approx.
Start at Ruswarp Train Station, Safe Ways Park and finish at Whitby Abbey.
Good fitness is required for this route, as you need to go up and down steps and carry your bike from time to time.
