Day trips from Whitby

Bridlington

This seaside town in North Yorkshire, one hour away from Whitby, offers the chance to relax at two sandy beaches: the North Beach and the South Beach. North Beach has more shops, while South Beach is calmer. Both beaches offer stunning views of the coast.

There is also an animal park home to exotic and native species, which offers interactive experiences such as “Meet the Meerkats” sessions and bird of prey displays.

Scarborough

Around a 36 minute drive from Whitby, Scarborough is another seaside town with plenty of things to do.

It’s famous for its sandy beaches, perfect for building sandcastles on. They are also home to rockpools that you can explore at low tide – keep an eye out for crabs, fish and even lobsters! But always remember to check the tide times…

Another attraction on offer in Scarborough is Alpamare Waterpark, a water lover’s heaven! It has water slides and a variety of pools including a gigantic wave pool. For those who like a more relaxing experience, there is also an Alpine-style wellness centre and spa. Little ones can come here too – adult and toddler swim sessions are available.

North Yorkshire Moors Railway

Want to feel as if you’re travelling back in time? This is a steam heritage railway that runs through North Yorkshire Moors National Park, between Whitby and Pickering. Enjoy a relaxing ride with some beautiful scenery.

Flamingo Land

A 40-minute drive from Whitby, Flamingo Land is a theme park, zoo and conservation centre with plenty to do for the whole family!

York
